We are collectors.
The founder Joe Fiore is a collector of over 40 years, immersed in a wide range of collecting categories, which include comics, comic art, toys, coins and trading cards. As a CPPA accredited appraiser and published Overstreet Price Guide advisor, as well as acting as an advisor to several print and online resources, he envisions ComicVerify as an independent and impartial service available to collectors to act as a verification checkpoint for both graded and ungraded comics as well as original comic art.
The original intent of graders was to safeguard protocols from a vulnerability previously thought to be impossible to address in peer-to-peer trading without some third-party grader acting as a verification checkpoint. What has happened instead is the confluence of enterprising pursuits which have used every available analog and digital resource to subvert the models of authentication, pricing systems, and exposed their weaknesses to a degree where it has left outdated methods of safeguarding collectors very vulnerable.
In the comic collecting category in particular, we have now seen examples of tampering that have been devised to not only subvert tamper proof holders, but online verification look-up tools as well. What ComicVerify offers is a service where your items are reviewed to verify the grade is still valid, as well as provide a value opinion conforming to uniform standards of appraising practices.
Now, more than ever, there is a need to identify the various methods of deception that have been used to resemble previously known and recongized systems of trust, and ComicVerify can help to ensure collectors are empowered with the knowledge and information to acquire, properly insure, and sell their collections. With the unprecedented market growth we've seen the past few years, we are becoming more aware of bad actors who are exploiting these vulnerabilities in grading, and as such, this has caused an increasing and noticeable demand for quality and more sophisticated appraisal requests from concerned consumers, lawyers, financial institutions, estate executors, bankruptcy trustees and the general public.
All items are reviewed, researched, and assessed solely through the submission of photos. At its discretion, ComicVerify may require taking added measures to perform its assessment as accurately and professionally as possible, and this may mean using a magnification app, a request to do a video call, or to take a video of the item. All submissions include an appraisal of the item, a digital badge, and a ComicVerify code which can be used through our website to search updated values for a period of up to 60 days.
